Is the U.S. consumer really K-shaped?
Consumer spending since 2023 has grown fastest among higher-income households, according to New York Fed research. But within that group, the very wealthiest appear to lag—possibly because the spending data misses some services they use more. How should we interpret that alongside signs of stronger lower-income wage growth?
